Being a self taught sculptor and having decades of unique life experiences, together has given me the freedom to create with no rules and few expectations. I don't see "normals". I see figuratively abstract people and things around me.
I feel art should elicit emotion. If a piece of art I create causes the viewer to pause and mentally engage, then I have succeed in making a connection with them. Breaking from the artist norm - where most artwork is left to be viewed only, I encourage people to touch and become a part of all my sculptures.
I strongly feel community HAS to be a part of public art. I weave people into whatever phase of fabrication I can. To share the creative process with others, has always been at my core. Everyone is an artist -to watch that evolve is so rewarding.

I have two very different processes for creating art. For large installations I have to have some forethought regarding the structure. I'm creating a base armature (skeleton) out of rebar and there will be areas that need extra fabrication, etc. So I need "a plan" for creating.
In contrast when I work with stone or marble mortar blocks - I seldom have an idea what the end piece will be. I just start carving and at some point my brain will take over and guide my hands as to what I need to do to finish that sculpture. Its truly the best of both creative worlds.

I'm all over the board with designs and creations. I swear when my mind takes off on a project it's hard to reel it in AND what comes out as the finished piece makes me shake my head at times thinking- Wow, where did that come from? But that's the rewarding (sometimes surprising) beauty of my art.
I intentionally leave most pieces untitled so viewers and purchasers can find their own meaning and assign it to the work. A title can steer perception at times; withholding a title invites the viewer to make a connection and own their interpretation. With that being said though- there are some pieces that a title just connects with me.
